![]() ![]() ![]() Player’s Handbook errata, and D&D design Jeremy Crawford’s Sage Advice column, clarifies that unlike D&D dual wielding this Bonus Action attack adds a character’s Strength modifier to damage. Polearm Master’s Bonus Action uses the blunt end of the weapon for 1d4 bludgeoning damage. Polearm Master provides this for the glaive, halberd, quarterstaff and spear, though the glaive and halberd are of special note as these are Heavy weapons, therefore also eligible for the -5 to hit, +10 damage feature of Great Weapon Master. The feats Polearm Master and Crossbow Expert allow characters to take an additional attack as a bonus action using certain weapon types after using the Attack Action with the same weapon. With that in mind, what would the monk look like if he used guns instead? (This is a bonus round, don't be too worried about answering this question.Related: D&D Campaign Ideas For Stephen King And Dark Tower Fansĭ&D has two action types, the Action and the Bonus Action, but not every character is innately capable of taking a Bonus Action. Speaking of which, the DM we have for AL is wanting to go homebrew, and is considering adding Matt Mercer's gunslinger into his new setting. The bonuses with going for monk is that it gets a lot of utility for movement, being that you can bonus action disengage (not as necessary with crossbow expert) or dash, as well as having some miscellaneous survivability in later levels, but I really wanted to see if I could make a gun-fu master. At level six, I can spend ki points to add my MA dice (1d6) to my damage rolls, and at that point hand crossbow outclasses light crossbow, but I also get a new kensei weapon then so I can pick up hand crossbow proficiency then. This complicates further at level 5 when I can attack with the light crossbow twice, or hand crossbow 3 times. I can choose light crossbow, and do 1d8+1d4+mod, or I can choose hand crossbow and do 2x 1d6 +mod (crossbow expert). Once reaching level three, Kensei allows 1 ranged weapon to become a monk weapon with proficiency, and that for a bonus action I can add 1d4 onto my ranged attacks. Monk allows proficiency in simple weapons and shortswords, so that means only light crossbow will benefit from crossbow expert. The build idea is to have variant human to gain either crossbow expert or sharpshooter, and then go straight for kensei monk. ![]() To begin with, because this is AL, we're going to be starting with standard array, and I assume that variant human is allowed.
